Dental fractures can result from several different problems. While a blow to the face or accidental fall are prime culprits, you could also fracture tooth enamel from nibbling on a foreign object, using your teeth as tools or grinding your teeth at night.
Small fractures or chips in tooth enamel can often be repaired at Andrew Henritze DDS with a simple filling. A large dental fracture might compromise so much tooth enamel that the tooth might need a dental crown restoration.
The process starts with Dr. Andrew W Henritze, DDS removing the tooth enamel. This leaves behind a post-like abutment of dentin that houses the pulp and root of the tooth. A detailed impression will be made of the area. This will be sent to a professional dental lab where your final crown will be made. Then a temporary crown made of hard plastic will be secured over the abutment to protect it.
A staff member will call you to schedule a follow-up appointment when your new crown is ready. This appointment will be brief as the temporary crown will be removed and your new crown will be cemented into place.
